NIDA - ISAM TRAVEL FELLOWSHIPS FOR PHYSICIANS 
A 5-year grant has been submitted on behalf of ISAM for 2008-2012 annual meetings. This unrestricted grant would enable the subsidizing of Young Investigators to the Cape Town Conference in Nov 2008.

Eligibility criteria
  1. Be affiliated with organizations with the capability and a history of conducting addiction research
  2. Be involved in addiction research
  3. Show promise of developing future research;
  4. Present their current research at the ISAM 2008 Annual Meeting;
  5. Have sufficient language knowledge to present in English;
  6. Some preference will be given to neighbouring low and low middle income countries
  7. Have not received travel support from NIDA or ISAM in the past year.
Application must include
  • Abstract: “objectives, methods, results and conclusions" model is expected
  • Short curriculum vitae including list of publications (max two pages)
  • Two letters of reference (in English) stating (1) benefits of the applicant to his/her further research and/or clinical practice or teaching, and (2) potential contribution to home country in case of attending the meeting.
  • Estimation of travel costs.

Deadline for receipt of documentation to ISAM Head office: July 1, 2008.

Incomplete or delayed applications will not be considered. Applications should include a fax number and email address if available.

Selection Criteria: Max 29 points; Min requirement 15 points
  1. CV (max 8 pts – 4 max/part): affiliations to addiction related organizations, training research or teaching in addiction, age, potential future research
  2. Quality of Abstract (max 12 pts - 3 max/part): Objectives, methods, results, conclusions
  3. Potential contribution to home country (max 3 pts): 1: Unsure/low; 2: Moderate; 3: High
  4. Potential for ISAM growth (max 3 pts): 1: Unsure/low; 2: Moderate; 3: High (ISAM member)
  5. Travel Costs (max 3 pts): 3: Low; 2: Moderate; 1: High
Insurance
Participants are advised to arrange adequate cover for travel and health insurance before departing from their home country. The organizers can accept to liability for personal injuries or for loss or damage to property belonging to meeting participants, either during or as a result of the vent.

PLEASE NOTE: Each Annual Meeting Local Organizing Committee will coordinate registration and lodging after the awards are announced and may help with travel arrangements if necessary.
